The exhibition “Fiori della Terra” (Flowers of the Earth – Colours and geometries in minerals) displays some amazing specimen of minerals, in particular sulphides, from the Litho-Mineralogical collections of the Museum and others coming from the Gramaccioli and Allori-Ceccantini collections. The exhibition is completed by an extraordinary series of fluorescent minerals from various private collections.
Sulphides, composed of sulphur and metallic elements, are generally found in shapeless masses and only rarely in crystals with observable shape and articulated interweaving.
The peculiarity of this exhibition derives from the choice of combining these unusual specimens of sulphides of extraordinary shapes to others of indefinite shape, such as the fluorescent minerals presented inside a small dark environment where, under the light of the ultraviolet lamp, they are transformed from colorless pebbles to brightly colored stones.
