Botanical Garden![]() The Botanical Gardens of Florence (also named "Giardino dei Semplici") was founded in 1545 as garden of medicinal plants (the so called "semplici") and it is one of the oldest Botanical Gardens in the world, together with Padua and Pisa. Today, in accordance with the definition of "Botanic Gardens Conservation International" (organization that collects the botanical gardens of all the world) it is "an institution that possesses documented collections of living plants for scientific research, conservation, exhibition and education purposes". In 2004 it has been named, together with the Botanical Gardens of Siena and Pisa, "Center for the conservation ex situ of the local flora" (CESFL) by Tuscany Regional Government. The activities of the "Giardino dei Semplici" are dedicated to the city population and schools in order to increase the botanical culture. Beginning from May 2008 are available multisensory paths for blind people. Via Micheli, 3
